Equinor adds to Fram area reserves

Equinor and joint equal partner Wellesley have found oil with two exploration wells in the Toppand prospect, the Norwegian energy company said January 7.

With 21–33 million barrels of recoverable oil equivalent, the find is commercial. Equinor is considering tying back production to the Troll B or C platform. It is Equinor’s fifth such find in the area in several years, having made others with different partners.

Equinor said exploration activity was key to its ambitions in Norway and that it was pleased with its continuing success in the Troll and Fram area. It also explained the advantages of finds near infrastructure: high profitability, short payback periods and low CO2 emissions.

Equinor said the finds show that new information and modern exploration technology can revitalise even mature areas. Proven resources might exceed 300 million barrels of oil equivalent.

These wells are the second and third exploration well in production licence 630 which Equinor won in the 2011 Award in Predefined Areas round. For more information, please see here.
